Why WDIYFF is important to you:
Because DIY filmmaking is a revolutionary act and queer people need to be part of the revolution…
WDIYFF is more than just a quaint community festival – we believe passionately in DIY film. For the first time, new technologies have made filmmaking an accessible and realistic art form for many.
There is the potential for new movements to be created in film, new thinking about how we make and view film and a real possibility of a new golden age in filmmaking. The restrictive challenges for the artist are no longer tied to financial costs but in breaking the psychological chains we have created through our consumption of industrial, capitalist cinema.
As DIY filmmakers we need to tear up the rule books and explore new ways of conceptualising and creating films.
WDIYFF showcases films by queer people for queer people and the DIY aspect is essential if you believe in accessibility and equality.
Here we get to make decisions about how we are represented on screen – that in itself is revolutionary.
It’s time to take control of our image, our stories and our films and this festival gives space and credit to that exploration.t’s a wonderful, haphazard, anarchic festival that is run with passion and love for all things queer and all things film. It is a massive pleasure and privilege to be working with the WDIYFF team.
